Week 5

Reflection on week 5 Seminar

On the 2nd of March 2018, our seminar on management and information system went well. We looked at a new topic today but it was within Excel. We looked at how to work the 'IF & Nested-IFs Function'.The formulas that were taught today wasn't too complicated. the teacher gave us a worksheet with step-by-step instructions on it to help us do the formulas correctly. The worksheet wasn't full of questions but rather it was more of an instruction sheet advising us on how to work the functions and what not to do. The worksheet gave us clear instructions on the functions work and helped us understand that with a minor error the whole result would be incorrect. The worksheet also contained examples of do's and don'ts. The worksheet would give instructions to do it incorrectly so that we can understand how the result will look like when it's incorrect and also gives the information on how to fix the errors. On 26th of February, our lecture was on 'Information system crimes, security & Controls'. The lecturer explained the topic really well and also answered all the doubts of the students. The lecturer covered different aspects such as: Most common computer crimes, Computer viruses, Spam, Cyber-threats, etc. It was very interesting to learn and increase my knowledge on this topic. The lecturer also made us watch this video on how quickly your phone can be hacked. It was very interesting as well as shocking to know how dangerously fast people can hack phones.

As for our group work, the teacher came around each group in the class to find out how far along we have got. When the teacher came to our group, we were told that we had to speed it along just a little bit as we were taking a little too long. We  agreed to do another meeting outside of class to help us catch up with the rest of the groups. We decided to book an appointment to do an interview with the manager of our chosen business case. We decided on the day and date and now we just have to do the interview. The purpose of this interview is to understand the current struggles and problems the business is facing at the moment and maybe gaining more knowledge on the business.
